Milwaukee Bucks | Contract extension for Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo announced on social media Monday that he has agreed to a contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Antetokounmpo posted a photo of himself with the 2021 NBA trophy on Instagram, adding the words: “MILWAUKEEEEEEEE! ! Let’s go get him! ! ! ! #BucksInSix #Extension.”

This message from Antetokounmpo came after the ESPN network reported a three-year, US$186 million extension with a one-year option available to the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

Antetokounmpo hinted this summer that he wasn’t going to agree to an extension this year because it would make more financial sense for him to wait until the summer. He also said he wanted to wait to see how determined the Bucks were to win another title before making a decision.

Since then, the Bucks have made a megatransaction to obtain Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers. Even after the trade, Antetokounmpo said he didn’t expect to extend his contract this year.

The extension will begin during the 2025-2026 season, so the player will remain with the club for at least the next four campaigns, and perhaps five if he wishes.

Jaden McDaniels of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Deni Avdija of the Washington Wizards and Cole Anthony of the Orlando Magic also signed extensions on Monday.

It was the last day to sign extensions for certain players in the NBA.
