The National Assembly begins, Monday, May 22, the examination of the military programming bill for the period 2024-2030. The budget of 413.3 billion euros is historic according to the government, which wishes to adapt to new military challenges.
In Crozon (Finistère), a few hundred meters from the base which houses French nuclear submarines, activists have come to denounce the increases in the budget allocated to the armies for the next few years. The military programming bill provides for a budget for the army of 413.3 billion euros over seven years. The objectives are multiple, in particular the modernization of the nuclear deterrent force, or the replacement of the equipment delivered to Ukraine.
Adapting to the evolution of conflicts in the world
With this budget, France is adapting above all to the evolution of conflicts in the world, according to Jean-Pierre Maulny, deputy director of the Institute for International and Strategic Relations (IRIS): “We effectively have a shift in external operations towards what is called high intensity, that is to say a conflict which lasts extremely long, since we are already at more than a year. The project will be presented Monday, May 22 to the National Assembly. The debates will last until June 6.
