Mika’s escapades – Les Camporells through the Lladure Valley

By

A sporty hike of 14km for 6h30 of walking and 800m of altitude difference, leading you to one of the most beautiful sites of the Pyrénées-Orientales which are the Camporells with breathtaking landscapes.

The route map

Steps

  • Park in one of the car parks at the Formiguères ski resort.
  • From the car park, head west towards the forest track (no markings here but an obvious route).
On the track, take the yellow markings which go west, towards Les Camporells (indicative panel).
  • Go past an oratory and climb constantly. The marked route crosses a ski slope before entering an undergrowth.
Further on, a good slope is again offered to you before it softens and leads to a forest track.
  • Take the track to the right, for about ten meters, before abandoning it.
  • Follow the marked route which goes to the left with a new climb in the undergrowth.
Reach the top of the ski slope and take it to the left to reach the Calmaseille chairlift.
  • Take the marked path which goes in front of you (possibility also of taking the track but little interest in hiking on a track for as long knowing that there is the alternative of the path).
Further on, join the track and take it to the right, for about a hundred meters, before abandoning it at the level of the signs.
  • Take the path that climbs to the left and continue to climb tirelessly, until you reach a track.
Take it to the left before leaving it, further on, at a signpost and a magnificent view of the Pics Péric.
  • Take the path towards Les Camporells, which runs along the crest of the Serra de Mauri with fabulous views of the surrounding lakes and peaks.
  • Return to the track after descending from the highest point of this hike. Always stay on the track that leads to the Refuge des Camporells.
  • Here the break is essential… We are in an idyllic and wonderful environment which allows us to regain our strength before attacking the descent..
Collect the Capcir GRP (Red and Yellow markings) heading towards the I
ac des Bouillouses, for about ten meters before leaving the latter at an intersection.
  • Abandon the GRP in order to follow the Basseta route which goes to the left (Yellow markings).
The descent begins on a very gentle slope before embarking on more pronounced steep slopes (be extremely careful on this section). Reach the Etang de la Basseta.
  • From here, the path turns into a small track which will allow you to breathe a little after all these efforts.
Later, reach a parking lot with a wider track.
  • At the junction, follow the track that goes up to the left and leads to the Creu de la Jaceta intersection.
  • Ignore the path that descends opposite in the direction of Formiguères in order to continue on the track that leads directly to the ski resort and the oratory at the start.
  • All you have to do is go down to the right to find the car park and complete this fabulous Capcinoise hike.
