With a score of 86.24 in the mogul super final, Kingsbury completed a perfect day. Sweden’s Walter Wallberg (84.65) finished second while Japan’s Ikuma Horishima finished third.
Kingsbury had demarcated his territory in qualifying, also finishing first in the final. Four other Canadians had also moved on to the next round at the end of the qualifying phase, namely Brenden Kelly, Gabriel Dufresne, Jordan Kober and Laurent Dumais. Dufresne did well in the final with a 10th place.
“In the super final, I think I did a good job. I didn’t make the mistake I made in France where I won the qualification and the final, then I put too much pressure on the gas to try to demolish everyone afterwards, explained Kingsbury , whose words were echoed by Sportcom after his last descent. Today (Friday), I played my cards well and it paid off. It looks like a perfect day and if at the Olympics I have to use strategies like that, so much the better. “
Japanese champion
In the women’s competition, the young Japanese Anri Kawamura won gold. The 17-year-old athlete, with a score of 81.76, beat French champion Perrine Laffont (81.43). American Tess Johnson completed the podium.
Quebecer Justine Dufour-Lapointe was the best representative of Canada, finishing ninth in the final, also less than two points from the super final bringing together the six best skiers. His sister Chloé for her part took the 14th position.
Chloé and Justine reached the finals placing seventh and ninth respectively in qualifying.
