Mikaël Kingsbury finishes second in moguls at Alpe d’Huez

Quebec’s Mikaël Kingsbury finished second in the individual moguls event at the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Alpe d’Huez, France, on Friday.

Kingsbury, from Deux-Montagnes, collected 80.85 points in the super-final, conceding only 1.81 points to the Japanese Ikuma Horishima, eventual winner. The podium was completed by American Cole McDonald with 75.17 points.

It was Horishima’s first World Cup victory this season.

Kinsgbury, the 2018 Olympic moguls champion in Pyeongchang in 2018, has won twice — including one in the dual moguls in Idre Fjall, Sweden — and finished second twice so far this season.

Kingsbury teammate Gabriel Duchesne settled for ninth at 72.16.

Alexandre Lavoie, Elliot Vaillancourt, Julien Viel, Daniel Tanner and Kerrian Chunlaud could not pass the qualifications.

Among the ladies, the Australian Jakara Anthony triumphed, ahead of the French Perrine Laffont and the American Elizabeth Lemley.

The top Canadian mogul was Maia Schwinghammer, 11e. The Quebecer Laurianne Desmarais-Gilbert could not cross the qualifications.

The moguls will be back on track on Saturday for the dual moguls event.
