A migrant from Senegal has been found guilty of manslaughter and assisting illegal entry into the UK. The facts date back to December 2022. In the images, an English fishing vessel rescues migrants after their boat sank. Thirty-nine people were saved, but four others died, drowned in the English Channel.
The obligation of smugglers
It was the accused who drove the boat, as one survivor recounts: “He accelerated to bring us closer to the fishing boat, he maneuvered so that it helped us.” The pilot claims that the smugglers were left with no choice at the start.
