Migrant and Racialized LGBTQIA+ Communities | Ottawa Provides Nearly $750,000 in Funding to Clinique Mauve

The federal government announced funding of nearly $750,000 to the Clinique Mauve, which provides care to migrant and racialized LGBTQIA+ communities.

According to a press release issued by the government, the grant, awarded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), “will enable the Mauve Clinic to expand its research on access to care for populations marginalized because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, migratory status or ethno-racial identity, by promoting capacity building and collaboration with allied research teams and key stakeholders in Canada and abroad.”

It was Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault who announced the grant in Montreal on Thursday.

Earlier today, Minister Randy Boissonnault, Canada’s Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on LGBTQ2 Issues, announced that 15 projects, including the Mauve Clinic, have been funded through a total investment of more than $11.5 million from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and partners.

The Mauve Clinic was created in 2020 to respond to the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on migrant and racialized LGBTQIA+ communities.
