80 people were arrested on suspicion of sharing child pornography videos and images. Is 80 people really a big number? Response with Mié Kohiyama, activist against child crime and co-founder of the “Be Brave France” association.
80 men were arrested in 53 French departments. They are suspected of having shared child pornography videos and images. More than 10,000 files were seized. “This is an important crackdown, but it must be emphasized that we are looking at absolutely terrible French and global figures for online child crime.”, underlines Mié Kohiyama, activist against child crime and co-founder of the Be Brave France association.
“In France, between January 1 andn October 4, 2023, there were more than 100,000 reports of sexual violence made to the Minor Office. Worldwide, in 2022, 88 million child abuse images and videos were reported”, she adds.
A phenomenon that is increasing
“Behind these crimes, there are children traumatized, not only by the crimes but by the sharing of these images. We must therefore be able to detect them, be able to save children and arrest even more predators.”, continues Mié Kohiyama.
According to her, child crime is a constantly increasing phenomenon. “From 2014 to 2021, there was a twenty-fold jump in images and videos child pornography. All the two seconds, we have an image or video of this type which is reported, it is exponential crime. We must be able to legislate at the transnational level”she concludes.
