Middle East and Central Asia twice as affected by rising temperatures, IMF says

Regions of the globe particularly affected by global warming. Temperatures in the Middle East and Central Asia have risen 1.5C since the 1990s, twice the global average (0.7), study finds (in English) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), published on Wednesday 30 March.

In addition, in the 21st century, natural disasters have affected on average each year in these regions seven million individuals, causing the death of more than 2,600 people, with damage estimated at 2 billion dollars, explains the report.

The director of the fund called on public authorities to put in place policies to mitigate the effects of climate change, in particular by investing in infrastructure “resilient”. Recalling the lack of resources “many countries in the region”she also urged the rich countries to keep their promise to increase to 100 billion dollars per year, from 2020, their aid to the most disadvantaged countries in the fight against global warming.
