“You can say that [Google] is popular but for me, he is above all dominant”. Satya Nadella, CEO of competitor Microsoft, took the stand in the trial against Google on Monday October 2 in Washington. Since September 12, the firm that became famous for its search engine has been pursued by the courts, accused of abuse of a dominant position by the American government.
This trial must determine whether Google acquired such global status, thanks to its popularity or because of illegal anti-competitive practices. THE Department of Justice suspects the Californian group of having concluded exclusive contracts with Samsung, Apple and Mozilla, so that its search engine is installed by default on devices, to the detriment of its competitors.
This is the direction Satya Nadella went on Monday during his hearing before the courts. The CEO of Microsoft also insisted that Google’s dominance is, in his view, based on its powerful data collection. Despite its investment in OpenAI, the start-up behind ChatGPT, Microsoft believes it cannot counter Google’s positioning. “It becomes even harder to break through when you don’t have market share”decreed Microsoft boss Satya Nadella.
