Six different types of plastic have been discovered in Schweppes and Coca-Cola bottles by the association Agir pour l’Environnement. Infrared analyses revealed the presence of these microparticles.

A new study by the NGO Agir pour l’Environnement reveals the presence of microplastic particles in Schweppes and Coca-Cola drinks. Small particles would accumulate due to the friction of the cap each time it is opened. The study would have found six different plastics and up to 62 particles per liter of soda.

Both brands assure that they comply with the standards in force, and according to Schweppes, the problem is not limited to sodas alone. Plastic is ingested daily in drinking water, fruits and vegetables, or when putting on synthetic clothing. Each week, each person consumes between 0.1 g and 5 g, the equivalent of a bank card. The consequences of microparticles on health are still poorly understood. Their quantity continues to increase at the same time as plastic: nine billion tons have accumulated on Earth.
