When checking out, it is sometimes possible to make a micro-donation, of a few cents or a euro. In just a few years, it has raised tens of millions of euros for the benefit of more than 1,200 associations.
Donate a few cents to an association, rounding up your bill to the next euro. “54 cents can help others, but it won’t make me poorer“, confides a woman. How is this money used? Donations do not exceed one euro. The stores do not take commission, and can choose the project or association they support. The Leclerc store in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne) collected more than 30,000 euros in one year to help renovate hospital rooms.
44% of French people have already rounded up their purchases
Choosing a neighboring establishment encourages customers to give. “It will be something that will reach customers more, and which will naturally convince them more easily to participate in a donation campaign.“, explains Christophe Grossin, the administrative and financial director of Leclerc de Vitry-sur-Seine. Micro-donations can finance the fight against poverty, support disabled children or even emergency accommodation. In ten years, organizations have collected more than 47.7 million euros thanks to cash rounding. 44% of French people have already rounded up their purchases.
