Mick Schumacher chose to follow in the footsteps of his father, Michael. He thus left Ferrari to join another team.
Mercedes announced on Thursday that Schumacher will be their test driver in 2023, supporting Britons Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
He had previously driven for the American team Haas, powered by a Ferrari engine.
“It’s a fresh start, and I’m very excited and very grateful to Toto (Wolff, Mercedes team principal) and everyone who chose to trust me,” Schumacher said in a statement.
The move marks the end of Schumacher’s four-year stint with the “Scuderia”, the team with which his father, Michael, won five Formula 1 world championships.
Michael also drove for Mercedes between 2010 and 2012.
Mick Schumacher started his F1 career with Haas, and he made 43 starts – for a meager haul of 12 ranking points. His best result came last season, when he finished sixth at the Austrian Grand Prix.
