Michelle Setlakwe will try to keep the seat of the PLQ in Mont-Royal-Outremont

Former city councilor and defeated candidate for mayor of Town of Mount Royal, Michelle Setlakwe, will try to keep Pierre Arcand’s seat in the National Assembly for the Liberal Party of Quebec.

Mr. Arcand thus confirmed, on Monday, his departure from political life after more than 15 years, a period during which he notably occupied the presidency of the Treasury Board and was Minister of the Environment, International Affairs and Energy and Natural Resources.

In presenting her candidate in Mont-Royal-Outremont, Liberal leader Dominique Anglade insisted a lot on the renewal of the PLQ, the political party having lost many heavyweights in the last few weeks in the run-up to the October 3 election. Ms. Anglade says she is not afraid that these departures will be perceived as desertion from the party.

Michelle Setlakwe was quick to establish her colors, saying she was against Bill 21 and Bill 96. She made no secret of wanting to break away from “subjects with a nationalist or identity flavor”.

She explained that she was educated in both languages and presents herself as a bilingual candidate.
