A page is turning at the Victoriaville Current Music Festival (FIMAV). After 40 years at the helm of the event, founder and director Michel Levasseur will step down at the end of the next edition, scheduled for May 15-19.
The news was announced Thursday by Platform Productions, which oversees FIMAV.
Compared to a “great oak tree” for his resistance and his rigour, Michel Levasseur has accomplished the feat of organizing and developing, in the region, an experimental music festival of international scope, which was far from being won by ‘advance. His colleague Joanne Vézina, with the administration since 1991, will also leave her functions.
FIMAV introduced Québec audiences to avant-garde artists such as Fred Frith, John Zorn and Ikue Mori, in addition to providing a platform of choice for local musicians such as René Lussier and Jean Derome.
Notice to interested parties: Platform Productions are “looking for two or three people who will take the reins of the general, artistic and administrative management” of the event. Will there be a successor?
