Interviewed by Brut., Michel-Édouard Leclerc, answers questions asked by consumers. Discover the answers of the boss of the E.Leclerc hypermarkets about inflation, shortages and purchasing power.
Michel-Édouard Leclerc answered questions from consumers. Central points of this exchange: inflation, shortages and rising prices in stores. “Part of the increase (in prices) of food and in particular of meat comes from a French law to better remunerate farmers” explains the president of E.Leclerc supermarkets.
Inflation, felt worldwide, does not spare France. Ukraine has often been pointed to as the cause of this price increase. This summer, the purchase of sunflower oil was restricted. The cause would be that the harvest could not be done in the country at war. “If you go, for example, to Lesieur’s Twitter site, it’s claimed that the seeds are French. So there is no effect of the war, at least when prices rise, on the price of sunflower oil or on the shortage of sunflower”, says Michel-Edouard Leclerc.
A consumer also asks him about the “shortage” of mustard in certain centers in France. “Sometimes it’s ruptures that are caused by negotiations, suppliers who no longer want to deliver because it’s not expensive enough (…). I wouldn’t use the word scarcity.”
