Michel Drucker, farewell France 2: Can’t wait for Sunday to change the channel, he explains himself!

Retirement ? What retirement? At 79, Michel Drucker intends to continue television and, moreover, he has re-signed a contract of at least two years. A real joy for the one who had been kept away from film sets in 2020 and part of 2021 due to a heart problem. Interviewed by the newspaper The Parisianhe unveiled behind the scenes of this unexpected upheaval.

Next fall, Michel Drucker joins France 3string to switch to Can’t wait for Sundaywho will now air at 1:30 p.m.either facing Laurent Delahousse’s 1:15 p.m. who becomes his direct competitor“says the daily; between the two men, there was a falling out in the past which has since been settled. The host assures that this decision was discussed with Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez (number 2 of France Télévisions) and that he then “found it great“. He adds : “I move. France 3 is part of my DNA (…) For me, it’s going on a channel that looks like me. I am a child from Basse-Normandie, hosted in Provence. I have always felt more provincial than Parisian, in direct contact with deep France (…) It is also synonymous with a new timetable, better exposed. It allows me to reach a cross-generational audience.

Michel Drucker, who receives a slew of stars on the mythical red sofa of Can’t wait for Sunday for decades, adds that the show will be a little overhauled and that there will be even more space given to humor. Over the years, he has offered a real media showcase to several already well-established comedians – like, for example, Mathieu Madénian – and he intends to continue in this direction! “I will spotlight the next generation alongside the mainstayslike Laura Felpin, Paul Mirabel, Maxime Gasteuil, among others. We will also receive more actors from the house series [malheureusement, il ne faudra plus compter sur Plus Belle La Vie, qui s’arrête, ndlr] who turn to Montpellier and throughout France. The show will be more anchored towards the province“, he says.

Michel Drucker also intends to highlight the “big“show business through specials once a month.”We will pay tribute to those who are in the hearts of the French (…) I do not want them to be forgotten. I hope viewers will follow me“, adds the one who remains one of the most popular animators of the PAF.
