The meeting between Michel Barnier and the leaders of the Les Républicains party, initially scheduled for Wednesday 18 September, was postponed at the request of Matignon. Olivier Marleix, LR deputy, acknowledged “tensions”.
Michel Barnier has cancelled his meetings scheduled for Wednesday 18 September with the leaders of the Republicans and Gabriel Attal. Laurent Wauquiez, Gérard Larcher and Bruno Retailleau were to be received, while some elected officials from the presidential camp have asked for clarifications on the political line of the new Prime Minister.“I am not privy to the secrets of the Gods. There have been other cancelled meetings with the majority. There was a bit of tension yesterday, that didn’t escape anyone’s notice. People want to have a bit of influence on the constitution of the new government“, explains Olivier Marleix, LR deputy.
Tensions are rising between the Prime Minister, the Macronists and the Republicans. “I trust Michel Barnier. He positions himself above the parties. He expressed his desire very clearly to respect the suffrage of the French people during the last legislative elections. He is trying to form a government that reflects this desire for respect and listening. I invite him not to be a hostage to the party leaders. Our country is in a serious situation, on the brink of a regime crisis.”warns Olivier Marleix.
