Michel Barnier set out a line of conduct before his government meeting at Matignon on Monday, September 23. The new Prime Minister insisted on the duty of humility, modesty and respect.
On the morning of Monday, September 23, before his government meeting at Matignon, Michel Barnier gave instructions. Modesty, respect, dialogue… Everyone must be irreproachable and act before communicating. From the first transfers of power, the message seemed to have gotten through. Jean-Noël Barrot, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, said to himself: “seized by a feeling of humility”a language element taken up by Anne Genetet, Minister of National Education, and Maud Bregeon, the new government spokesperson.
The first council of ministers was held a few hours later at the Élysée. It lasted 30 minutes. Emmanuel Macron asked for commitment and courage. As they left, the participants did not linger in front of the press. It is time for discretion. Michel Barnier’s next meeting with his team is scheduled for the end of the week to prepare his general policy statement, on October 1.
