Michaud affair: it is still possible to repair the error

Yves Michaud has died without ever receiving the official apology from the National Assembly of Quebec. This same Assembly had condemned him, wrongly, without any verification and without even giving him the right to deliver his version of the facts.

The Michaud affair is the story of a man who was smeared, put in the dock and found guilty without trial, proof or crime.

This is proof that even our elected officials can ignore the elementary principles of natural justice.

This is proof that truth, reality and facts can become secondary in the eyes of elected officials.

Individual apologies

There was a mistake. It is known and recognized. Several elected officials even apologized individually to Mr. Michaud, but the Assembly as a democratic institution has never done so.

He died without justice ever being served. Without ever regaining the honor and dignity that he should have enjoyed as a citizen first, but then as a former deputy.

Today, Mr. Legault tells us that he is living well with his vote in favor of the motion. Either. Mr. Michaud died without ever having been given justice and for years he had a hard time dealing with this injustice.

It is still embarrassing that the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister of all Quebecers, persists and signs in what was a sad moment in our parliamentary history.

A fan

Mr. Michaud was passionate about Quebec, a fervent defender of our culture and our language, an activist for shareholder rights because he could not conceive that large corporations could infringe on the rights and privileges of small investors.

He could not imagine that this Quebec that he loved so much could turn its back on him.

Alas.

There is always an opportunity to correct the mistake and formally and solemnly, posthumously, apologize to him.
