The Council of Ministers on Wednesday formalized the appointment of Michael Sabia as CEO of Hydro-Québec to replace Sophie Brochu. He will take up his new duties from 1er august.
The appointment of Michael Sabia “follows the recommendation of the company’s board of directors”, the government said in a press release.
Prime Minister François Legault and his Minister of the Economy Pierre Fitzgibbon, also responsible for Hydro-Québec, both believe that Mr. Sabia is the man for the job “to carry out the necessary transformation of Hydro-Québec”.
“Mr. Sabia has the perfect roadmap to meet the many challenges facing the Crown corporation,” said Minister Fitzgibbon. With the demand for energy growing, Hydro-Québec will have to be more agile and innovate in this important period of energy transition”.
The man who spent ten years at the head of the Caisse de dépôt before becoming Deputy Minister of Finance in Ottawa thanked the Quebec government for its confidence. “I am very happy to join the great Hydro-Québec team in this context and I am convinced that together we will be able to act for the benefit of the Quebec population,” he said.
“I am undertaking this mandate with humility and determination, knowing that I can count on competent and committed people. »
