In the battle of the sporting collectibles auction, basketball legend Michael Jordan has shattered all records. The auction house Sotheby’s sold, Thursday, September 15, the jersey of the basketball player worn during his last victorious title in the NBA, in 1998, for $10.1 million.
The famous red jersey flanked by the number 23 of the Chicago Bulls broke the previous world record held by a jersey of footballer Diego Maradona, sold some 9.3 million dollars.
Sotheby’s auctioned this article for eight days in September for an estimate ranging from three to five million dollars. Jordan’s jersey, worn for Game 1 of the NBA Finals, 1997-98 season, ended up going for double the estimated price in the high range.
