(Miami) Aryna Sabalenka played her second round match at the Miami tennis tournament just four days after the death of former hockey player Konstantin Koltsov, with whom she was once in a relationship.
Sabalenka, who did not have to play in the first round because of her second place in the world, won 6-4, 6-3 against Paula Badosa on Friday.
Sabalenka, 25, is the two-time reigning Australian Open champion.
Rain delayed the day session by six hours, and there was another suspension of play in the early evening.
In one of the first completed matches, reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff defeated Nadia Podoroska 6-1, 6-2 to book her ticket to the third round.
Among the men, Andrey Rublev lost 6-4, 6-4 against Tomas Machac.
Ugo Humbert won 6-4, 6-3 against Botic Van de Zandschulp.
Due to rain, the remaining matches to be played were postponed.
The Canadian Denis Shapovalov led 2-1 against the 10e top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas when the action was halted.
For her part, Laval resident Leylah Annie Fernandez was scheduled to play later in the evening against Emiliana Arango.
The tournament initially suspended matches, but then canceled Session 8.
