(Miami) German Alexander Zverev, 5e world, was effective Thursday to reach the semi-final of the Masters 1000 in Miami by beating the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (57e) 6-3, 7-5.
Completely in control, relying on a powerful first ball, the 26-year-old German, seeded number 4, took the lead in both sets.
Marozsan gave up his throw at key moments, at the start of the first set then by committing a double fault on the first set point that his opponent obtained.
The 24-year-old Hungarian then recovered well, holding his opponent high as soon as the exchange lasted. But here again, the first match point was the right one for Zverev on Marozsan’s serve in the 11e game of the second round.
The Hungarian should gain 19 places in the ATP rankings at the end of a tournament where he took on two players from top 10 : the Dane Holger Rune (N.7) at 2e round and the Australian Alex De Minaur N.10 in eighth.
Zverev will face the winner of the last quarter between the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, world number two, and the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (N.12).
The other semi-final will pit Italian Jannik Sinner (world No. 3) against Russian Daniil Medvedev (No. 4) on Friday.
