Miami Open | Canadians Marino and Sebov are ruled out

(Miami) Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino and Toronto’s Katherine Sebov were eliminated in the second round at the Miami Open on Thursday.

Marino was beaten 6-4, 6-3 by sixth seed Coco Gauff, while Sebov fell 6-3, 6-1 to number three seed Jessica Pegula.

Marino broke Gauff to make it 3-2 in the second set, but the American won four straight games to claim the match.

Sebov started well, trading breaks with Pegula to make it 2-2 in the first set. However, Pegula went on alone and scored four more breaks en route to victory.

Bianca Andreescu, of Mississauga, will face seventh seed Maria Sakkari of Greece starting at noon.

On the men’s side, Ontario’s Denis Shapovalov will play his second round match against Guido Pella of Argentina in the afternoon.

On Saturday, Félix Auger-Aliassime will face the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro or the Australian Jason Kubler.
