This ceremony has been organized every year since 2013 by the Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl district, in the east of the Mexican capital, for couples who want to regularize their union and enjoy some advantages, such as receiving their marriage certificate for free, explained María Darinka Rendón, secretary of the town hall of this district.

According to Mme Rendón this kind of collective wedding is “an event full of emotion for the participants, for the families and for us too who are there to witness”.

The oldest couple were Francisco Calvo, a 74-year-old trader, and Rosalba Silva, 67, without profession, two widowers who met five years ago and decided last year to get married.

“I thought there would be no more opportunity for me, but love has arrived because love arrives,” Rosalba explained, all smiles next to her husband.
