On Wednesday August 3, several coal mines collapsed in northern Mexico. Ten men are currently stuck 60 meters deep. In the region, extraordinary and unexpected rescues are frequent so everyone hopes.
Tuesday, August 9, rescue operations continue at the mine site. 300 liters are pumped underground, where ten men are still stuck. On Wednesday August 3, at a coal mine in northeastern Mexico, miners were digging when they came across an area filled with water. Immediately, the galleries were flooded. The water rose 34 meters high and trapped the ten workers, who would have taken refuge in an air pocket.
Only five miracles managed to escape. For families, the wait is unbearable. “My son has worked here for years. I had asked him ‘but why do you work in this mine?‘Of course it’s because he’s paid more here'”testifies a father. The Mexican authorities are asking for help to act quickly. In 2021, in the same region, seven miners died after an underground collapse.
