Mexico | Arrest of the wife of the king of drug traffickers

(Mexico City) Mexican authorities on Tuesday announced the arrest of the wife of the most powerful drug trafficker in the country, two days before the first Mexico-United States-Canada summit in five years, whose agenda includes questions of security.

Rosalinda Gonzalez is the wife of Nemesio Oseguera “El Mencho”, leader of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), the most powerful in Mexico since the arrest of his rival Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman, who is serving a life sentence. in the USA.

Rosalinda Gonzalez is considered the chief financial officer of CJNG, “one of the most prolific producers of methamphetamines in the world,” according to the US Department of Justice in March 2020.

His arrest by soldiers in Zapopan (west) represents “a significant blow to the financial structure of organized crime in the state of Jalisco”, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense.

Rosalinda Gonzalez had already been arrested in May 2018 for money laundering, then released after paying bail.

She is still accused of “illegal financial operation in connection with an organized crime group”.

The arrest is announced two days before the first Mexico-United States-Canada summit in five years Thursday in Washington.

On the sidelines of their meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, US Presidents Joe Biden and Mexican Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador are to discuss the themes of security and drug trafficking during a bilateral meeting.

The United States has offered $ 10 million for information that could lead to the arrest of the CJNG leader.

On June 26, 2020, a CJNG commando team wounded the regional Minister of Security in Mexico City, Omar Garcia Harfuch, during an armed operation in the capital. Two bodyguards and a passerby were killed.

In May 2015, the CJNG shot down an army helicopter with a rocket launcher, killing eight servicemen and a policeman.
