“Viva Mexico” ! All smiles, Valtteri Bottas was able to exult at the end of Q3 of the Mexican Grand Prix, Saturday, November 6. The Finn has indeed offered his nineteenth pole position in his career, he who is competing in his last Grands Prix with the German team. Bottas thus becomes the sixth different polemen in six consecutive editions in Mexico City, after Leclerc (2020), Ricciardo (2019), Vettel (2018), Hamilton (2017) and Rosberg (2016).
On the front line on the grid, the Finn will be ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who set the second fastest time, by a breath. Discreet since the start of the day during free practice controlled by the Red Bulls of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen, the two Mercedes surprised everyone at the start of Q3, while the Red Bulls had problems with their fins.

I’m just as shocked as everyone but I accept this result.”, relished Lewis Hamilton after the race, praising his teammate’s performance: “I would have liked to have been in his shoes but Valtteri did a better job than me today.” Behind the two Mercedes, Max Verstappen will start in third position, ahead of Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly, 5th.
