For about an hour, from 1:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., on the night of Saturday to Sunday, a group of drivers and their passengers made Montreal motorists and the police see all the colors.

“They stopped traffic to film themselves doing dangerous driving maneuvers on the tracks,” says Stéphane Tremblay.

At least three highways – 640 near Rosemère, Highway 15 South and the southern lane of the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge – were thus blocked in turn by the same group of drivers.

Two vehicles were intercepted by law enforcement at the exit from the Samuel-De Champlain bridge in Brossard.

“The drivers and passengers have been identified and a van (pickup) was towed by the officers because the tires were too worn,” says Mr. Tremblay.

A dozen statements of offense were given at this time, in particular for worn tires, non-compliant exhaust pipes and missing documents.

Ongoing investigation

The Sûreté du Québec is continuing its investigation into the case. Motorists provided license plates of the vehicles involved. Videos from highway and bridge cameras will also be sent to the SQ, according to Stéphane Tremblay.

“We would not be surprised if other findings were issued or that there were charges to come,” said the spokesperson.

The offenders could be criminally charged with obstruction, dangerous driving or reckless driving, among other things.

“When we watch the videos, there is a panoply of offences,” points out Mr. Tremblay.
