Metro | The STM refuses to identify its stations in poor condition

The big boss of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) refused Monday to identify the nine metro stations which are officially classified in “poor” or “very poor” condition.

Eric Alan Caldwell limited himself to ensuring that the underground network was safe, but that it needed investments of billions of dollars.

“With our maintenance budgets, every day between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., our teams crisscross the network to maintain it so that it is safe,” Mr. Caldwell told the municipal council, while the opposition asked him to identify these nine problematic stations. He limited himself to saying that this classification of the state of the stations was the result of an “arithmetic application of the state of degradation of the network”.

The STM had already refused to identify these stations last month at the request of the Dutyfollowing the study of budgetary appropriations in the National Assembly of Quebec.

“This information should be public,” argued opposition MP Christine Black, who questioned Mr. Caldwell at the municipal council. “There is obviously an issue of transparency at the STM. It refuses to inform its users about the state of the metro stations they use. »
