The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) announced the normal resumption of orange line service Tuesday evening, around 7 p.m., after a breakdown paralyzed part of the network for nearly two hours.
The resumption had earlier been confirmed by the STM and by an employee of the company with whom The Press spoke, Place-d’Armes station. “It’s gradually picking up. »
The STM announced around 4:25 p.m. that metro service was temporarily interrupted on part of the orange line.
The interruption, caused by a power outage at Lionel-Groulx station, affected the orange line between Côte-Vertu and Berri-UQAM stations. “There was a power outage and during repowering, a problem was detected,” explained Isabelle Tremblay, Corporate Advisor – Public Affairs for the STM. “We do not have any more information at this time on the nature of the breakdown, there will be an internal investigation,” she said early in the evening.
A train stopped between the Vendôme and Place-Saint-Henri stations was notably evacuated shortly before 5 p.m., after the people taking their seats had waited more than thirty minutes. Fannie Alexandre was among them: “We walked about a kilometer to get to Vendôme station. »
Les usagers ont dû circuler « en file indienne » aidés d’employés de la STM qui veillaient à la sécurité de tout un chacun. « On nous a aidés une fois arrivés au quai » et avant « pour éviter qu’on s’enfarge », raconte Mme Alexandre.
Service spécial de bus
Le service devait initialement reprendre vers 16 h 55, mais la STM a repoussé l’heure de reprise jusqu’à ce qu’elle soit finalement officialisée, peu après 18 h 10. La société a entre-temps invité les usagers des transports en commun à privilégier la ligne verte pour les déplacements dans le centre-ville, entre les stations Lionel-Groulx et Berri-UQAM.
« Le tronçon Berri-Montmorency de la ligne orange fonctionne, mais possiblement au ralenti », avait fait savoir la STM par courriel.
La société a rapidement mis en place un service spécial de bus pour effectuer la navette entre les stations Côte-Vertu et Lionel-Groulx. « L’arrêt situé tout proche des stations est identifiable par la couleur de la ligne qu’il dessert », avait écrit la STM sur le réseau social X. « Une quinzaine de bus » avaient été déployés pour assurer ce service provisoire.
Sur les réseaux sociaux, nombre d’usagers ont tôt fait de signifier leur mécontentement, beaucoup déplorant les ratés d’un « service essentiel ». Un usager sur X a par exemple affirmé qu’il raterait un rendez-vous de chimiothérapie, rejetant le blâme sur la STM : « C’est une farce, vous jouez avec ma santé ! »
Une autre encore a regretté que « des enfants [manquent] the last commuter train” due to these delays.
