For several days, testimonies have been increasing on sexist and sexual violence in the hospital environment. Speech is being released everywhere in the country.
Behind the walls of the hospital, the law of silence is cracking. “We are not going to say that a doctor is a sexual aggressor. We are going to say that he is a little heavy, and that he easily puts his hand on his buttocks”testifies Bluenn Quilleron, hospital psychiatrist practitioner in Plouguernével (Côtes-d’Armor) “It’s so much all the time that we don’t really realize it”says a woman, who testifies anonymously.
Sexist behavior
Bluenn remembers her nine years spent at Saint-Antoine hospital in Paris. Obscene remarks were part of his daily life. “When we were eating lunch (…), a doctor came, and in general his big thing was to tell us about his sexual exploits. He talked to us about the size of his penis”, she says. In June 2020, she wrote to Martin Hirsch, then general director of the AP-HP, listing the sexist behaviors of which she says she is a victim. Contacted, Martin Hirsch said he was not aware of it.
A victim, wishing to remain anonymous, testified to inappropriate comments made by an orthopedic surgeon. “If she gets bored, we just have to put her in a cellar, and we’ll turn her around”, he would have declared in particular. She also made a report, which remained unanswered. Since the establishment of the AP-HP prevention unit in September 2021, 279 reports have been collected.
