Initially considered out of danger, a 19-year-old man stabbed Saturday evening in Montreal has finally succumbed to his injuries.
The victim had undergone surgery during the night and there was no longer any fear for his life. But complications then arose and led to his death, the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) said on Sunday.
Two men were arrested in connection with the assault that occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on Arcand Street, near Robert-Jurie Street, in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
The first, a 19-year-old man, was released on a promise to appear while the other, a 27-year-old man, appeared and was charged with assault with a weapon. He remains in custody and other charges could be added against him.
“According to initial information received, a conflict escalated between a group of individuals and another man. When the police arrived on the scene, they located a victim, a 19-year-old man with injuries to his upper body caused by a sharp object,” indicated Sabrina Gauthier, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) late in the evening.
