(Montreal) A home invasion involving a firearm occurred overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. A 57-year-old man was hit by a projectile, but there is no fear for his life. According to our information, the victim is not the person targeted by the attackers.
The attack took place on the doorstep of an apartment in rue Bossuet, around 1:50 a.m. Gunshots woke up the neighborhood, who alerted the police.
According to initial information, at least two suspects would have opened the door of the accommodation, where there were several people from the same family. An altercation would then have started between the victim and the assailants.
One of the occupants of the apartment, a 57-year-old man, was injured in the hand after receiving a projectile from a firearm. “He was transported to the hospital and we do not fear for his life,” said agent Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service (SPVM).
According to our information, the injured was not the person targeted in this violent attack. No other resident was injured. The police located a bullet hole and casing inside the apartment.
The suspects quickly left the scene, so there are no arrests in this case at this time.
Investigators are on the scene, assisted by forensic identification technicians. They will analyze surveillance camera images in order to clarify the circumstances of this event.
