Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve | Four vehicles burned in the parking lot of a garage

Four vehicles were set on fire in the parking lot of a garage late Monday evening in Montreal. Police found a can of gasoline near the vehicles and are still searching for a suspect.

Emergency services were warned shortly before midnight that vehicles were engulfed in flames in the parking lot of a car garage located on rue de Rouen, in the district of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

When police arrived, four vehicles were on fire. The firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, so the damage linked to this event is only material, even if the police describe it as “significant”.

Tuesday morning, the Montreal Police Department was still looking for a suspect in this case.

“According to initial information obtained from witnesses, a suspect was observed near the vehicles when the fire started. He would have fled before the police arrived,” explained agent Véronique Dubuc, who is a spokesperson for the Montreal police force.

A can of gasoline was found near the burned vehicles, she added.

Investigators from the arson section of the Montreal police were to go to the scene early Tuesday morning to shed light on this incident.
