An apartment building in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough was hit by at least one gunshot during the night from Saturday to Sunday, forcing Montreal police to launch an investigation.
The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) reports that it was called to go to Mercier Avenue, very close to de Brouage Street, around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The initial call mentioned a “firearm projectile impact” on a triplex.
Arriving on the scene, the first police officers were able to confirm the trace of the impact of a bullet, which was in the front door of the building.
“According to initial information, a shot may have been fired towards the building last night. There were no injuries,” explained agent Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM, on this subject.
A security perimeter was nevertheless erected to allow investigators and forensic identification technicians to do their work. They will have to determine the exact causes and circumstances of this event in the coming days.
