More than 200 demonstrators gathered in the Mercier-Est district to protest against the adjustment made to the REM de l’Est, which would take the megaparcours right through the residential district.

The $10 billion project worries residents of the Mercier-Est district, young and old alike.
“It’s peaceful, it’s almost a small countryside. We mustn’t put on something that will block the sun, which will come through 24 hours a day. Yes for the east, but not at any price,” said one of the demonstrators and resident of the district.
“There are a lot of young people who cross the rails so yes, it’s a project that concerns us enormously,” says a mother and resident of Mercier-Est.
$42,000 for the voice of the REM
The actress Caroline Dhavernas was finally chosen by the public to be the voice of the major project. This is a 12-month agreement and about a hundred recordings which can be used indefinitely by CDPQ Intra, responsible for the REM.
