Mercedes withdraws its appeal. The German team decided Thursday, December 16 not to attack the decision of the marshals concerning the end of the race and the exit of the safety car during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, won by the Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen, crowned at the same time F1 world champion.
The move follows the announcement by the International Motor Sport Federation (FIA) on Wednesday (December 15th) of the opening of an investigation into the controversial events that occurred at the end of the Grand Prix. “The Mercedes team will actively work with this commission to build a better Formula 1 (…) We will hold the FIA accountable for this process and we hereby withdraw our appeal “, specifies the German manufacturer in a press release.

The Dutchman Max Verstappen is therefore assured of keeping the trophy awarded to the world champion which must be presented to him at the FIA awards gala on Thursday 16 December in Paris.
The German team congratulated the new world champion and his team, Red Bull, for having “made this fight for the title of Formula 1 champion truly legendary”. “We would like to express our sincere respect for what you have accomplished this season. (…) We look forward to fighting with you on the track next season.”, concludes the management of Mercedes.
