Mercedes-Benz | The SL relies on electric power to boost its power

Mercedes-Benz has chosen to end the year with a striking highlight based on its SL roadster. For the 2025 model year, it will receive a brand new engine, the amount of which will exceed 800 hp thanks to a significant contribution from an electric motor.


Named SL 63 E Performance, it juxtaposes the cavalry of a 4 L twin-turbo V8 placed at the front producing 607 hp with that of an electric motor with a maximum power of 201 hp and bolted to the rear axle. The latter can produce 94 hp continuously, allowing a constant supply. This configuration makes it possible, according to Mercedes-Benz, to transmit torque more directly to the rear wheels via a two-speed transmission reserved for the electric motor. This can route power to the front, allowing you to drive in electric mode with all-wheel drive.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 SE Peformance has a front-placed twin-turbo 4.0L V8 producing 607 hp in addition to the electric motor.

The maximum power of this plug-in hybrid unit reaches 807 hp and the torque is worthy of a diesel pickup truck at 1047 lb-ft. Thanks to the traction provided by its all-wheel drive, this SL can go from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. The electric autonomy, not yet detailed, also seems to be only an afterthought with a battery of only 6.1 kWh and a charging power of 3.7 kW.
