Menus at low prices: chicken breasts at wholesale discounts

In order to help our readers deal with the repercussions of rising food prices, among other things, our new collaborator Myriam Gendron, creator of the site Simply foodoffers a low-cost menu every week from the best grocery discounts of the week.

Grocery discounts from 6 at 12 April 2023

With this menu, we welcome spring and banish the gloom of winter for good with fresh and colorful recipes!

In this Easter week, it is not the discounts on everyday meats that run the streets. Despite everything, boneless chicken breasts are still at their lowest price at $4.77/lb this week at Super C. Pork tenderloin is also at a more than reasonable price, it’s a perfect protein to put in star (but there is nothing to make reservations).

Special mention to the frozen northern shrimp (400 g package) at $7.99 at Super C: not only is it a great discount, but it’s an excellent convenience store for rushed evenings since they are cooked and can thaw them in no time!

As for more festive proteins, the leg of lamb is at a friendly price at $5.77/lb at Super C and you can find young turkey on promotion almost everywhere. The best discounts are at Metro ($2.44/lb) and at IGA ($34.99 for a 5 to 7 kg turkey, the price being more advantageous for a larger piece). Roast beef lovers will also be served, as you can find roast ribeye at $6.77/lb at Provigo (April 6 to 8 only). It can be served roasted or cut into steaks (of the desired thickness).

Moreover, to celebrate, you are entitled to a thematic and fun dessert to cook with the children this week! Speaking of the Easter weekend, you’ll also find a ton of discounts and low-cost brunch recipe ideas in a special folder on pages 30-35.

Good poop!

FEATURED THIS WEEK

MONDAY

BRUSSELS SPROUTS SALAD WITH CHICKEN AND LEMON
Recipe taken from boost

GOOD TO KNOW !

How to make cutlets from chicken breasts? They are cut in half horizontally (on the thickness) and then placed between two pieces of plastic wrap. Using a mallet (the flat side) or a cast iron skillet, flatten them so that they are about 4 to 5 mm thick. Since you will also need 1 1⁄2 cups of cooked chicken for the pizza recipe, take the opportunity to prepare more!

TUESDAY

LETTUCE CUP WITH PORK AND PEPPERS

GOOD TO KNOW !

This week, Metro is where you can find Boston lettuce at the best price: the two-unit package is $1.99.

WEDNESDAY

SHRIMP AND CAULIFLOWER FAJITA BOWLS
Recipe taken from boost

GOOD TO KNOW !

You can also easily make your own cauliflower rice: the cauliflower florets are cut very finely, into very small grains, almost like couscous. Ideally with a food processor, but it is done very well with a knife! Take the opportunity to get ahead and also prepare the one for pizzas as well as tabbouleh for lunch.

THURSDAY

PAN-FRIED POLENTA WITH ROASTED VEGETABLES
Recipe taken from boost

GOOD TO KNOW !

For a more protein meal, do not hesitate to add a legume of your choice. White beans, which are more tender, would do just fine.

FRIDAY

BBQ CHICKEN PIZZA ON CAULIFLOWER CRUST
Recipe taken from boost

LUNCH

CAULIFLOWER TABOULÉ WITH LENTILS AND HALLOUMI
Recipe taken from Quebec recipes

GOOD TO KNOW !

For lentils, you can also use canned ones! To avoid wasting, you can transfer the extra lentils from the freezer in portions to silicone molds (covering them with water for better protection). Once the legume slices are frozen solid, they can be transferred to an airtight bag or container in the freezer. The 160g block of halloumi is on sale at $6.99 at IGA this week, but know that you can always replace it with crumbled feta or the cheese of your choice if you don’t have it on hand.

SNACK
