Mental health: two new crisis centers in Saguenay and Estrie

The government is funding the creation of two new mental health crisis centers in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Estrie, regions which, unlike the others, did not have any.

The $85 million investment is included in the 2022-2026 Interdepartmental Mental Health Action Plan released Tuesday, which provides for $361 million in additional investments in this area over five years.

According to Minister Delegate for Health Lionel Carmant, approximately 20,000 people are currently awaiting mental health follow-up in Quebec. On Tuesday, he reiterated that not all people need a psychologist or a psychiatrist and invited people in distress to contact the Info-Social 811 service where they can be followed by other shorter-term professionals such as social workers.

Further details will follow.
