Men’s Doubles Tournament | Wimbledon changes format and aligns with other major tournaments

(Wimbledon) Wimbledon has decided to change the format of its men’s doubles tournament to align it with that of the other three major tournaments on the calendar.

The All England Club announced its decision to change the format for best-of-five doubles matches on Wednesday, adding that the move could encourage more players to sign up for the competition at Wimbledon.

In addition, this modification could “facilitate the logistics surrounding the organization of matches during the tournament,” the club said in a press release.

Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell won the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon last July. The Australians defeated Croatian Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-2) on center court. This match lasted four hours and 11 minutes.
