Ménick moved to tears talking about Guy Lafleur

Ménick, the sports barber, but also a friend of Guy Lafleur, paid him a vibrant tribute on Friday morning, a few hours after the announcement of the death of the legendary number 10.

“It’s safe to accept, I hope I’ll make a man of myself. I don’t want to disappoint Guy”, immediately launches the sports barber in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

Guy Lafleur came to visit him every three weeks, times when he always took the time to chat with the people present. “Guy could stay an hour and a half to take pictures and chat with the world.”

“Everyone who met Guy loved him. He carried Quebec on his shoulders all the time,” added Ménick, paying tribute to him.

He particularly remembers the respect that other players and friends of Lafleur had for him.

In particular, he tells an anecdote where Rodger Brulotte had asked the Blond Demon to serve Gilles Lupien during a photo shoot at the Lafleur restaurant in Berthier.

“Gilles Lupien… he stood up square… he’s 6’7″ he said ‘no, no, I’m going to serve Lafleur, it’s not Lafleur who will serve me!”” , he recalls.

Ménick managed to speak to Guy Lafleur about two weeks ago.

Afraid of disturbing him because of his medical condition, he tried to call him and told himself that he would at least leave him a voicemail. To his surprise, Lafleur answered him immediately.

“I call him and he answers me right away. I told him that I was sorry to disturb him, he said to me ”you don’t disturb me”. That’s how it ended.”
