The film “Men on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” follows in the wake of Audrey Dana’s 2 previous feature films as a song of hope aimed at harmony and reconciliation between the sexes.
The story is that of 7 men aged 17 to 70 and that everything opposes, if not to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. embarked in a group therapy in nature exclusively reserved for men is supposed to work miracles. But the first surprise when they arrive: the coach is a woman! Unpredictable and confusing, she will do everything to help them get better. With or without their consent…
To write their screenplay, Audrey Dana and Claire Barré produced many anonymous interviews with men. Some profiles have been kept to draw the profiles of several characters. They also stole many character traits from the men around them: husbands, brothers, sons, friends… Finally, they were inspired by 7 neurohormones that our bodies secrete and that influence our personalities: oxytocin, estrogen, serotonin, acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine and testosterone. Each of the characters relies on a dominant hormone.
Furthermore, the film is strewn with symbolic elements. Take for example the first letter of each first name of the men in the film and you will see the word “harmony” appear!
