Yannick Jadot’s position on TotalEnergies continues to generate reactions. While the environmental candidate accused the French multinational “to be complicit in war crimes” because of his activities in Russia, Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Fabien Roussel replied to him on Thursday March 24. The two candidates were guests of the program “Elysée 2022” on France 2.
Asked about these remarks, the candidate of La France insoumise reacted with a cautious pout: “I think we have to be careful. It’s a horribly tense situation (…) Take it easy with the names of birds, maybe it’s not the time”he thus estimated.
A little later in the evening, the communist candidate Fabien Roussel also distanced himself from the position of his environmentalist competitor. “I do not share that. The stakes are much more important, more serious than throwing this kind of anathemas during an election period”he said, calling for reflection with European countries to “find the right solutions”.
The industrial group announced on Wednesday a defamation action against Yannick Jadot, denouncing “unacceptable remarks”, “extremely serious and unfounded”. For the ecologist, guest Thursday morning of franceinfo, “Total wants [l]to silence in the middle of the presidential election campaign”. He reiterated his statements.
