(Melbourne) The Melbourne City goalkeeper was injured in a scuffle after supporters of his team and Melbourne Victory invaded the pitch, leading to the interruption of this A-League derby on Saturday .
As they had planned to do before the match in protest after the League’s decision to play the next three major Championship finals in Sydney, dozens of supporters of both teams stormed onto the pitch at the 20e minute of the game.
But this demonstration which was to be peaceful turned out badly. A few minutes earlier, a flare had already landed behind a cameraman.
Once on the lawn, “Victory” supporters rushed at Tom Glover, the “City” goalkeeper, after he sent a flare in their direction. One then threw a metal bucket at Glover’s head, injuring him.
The crowd movement continued, forcing the game to be interrupted definitively.
“Tom Glover is receiving medical treatment in the locker room and likely has a concussion,” Melbourne City tweeted, supporting photos of his player’s bloody face.
According to the Football Federation of Australia, match referee Alex King was also injured. But she did not provide further details.
