While waiting for the release of his new film, The real family, in theaters on February 16, 2022, Mélanie Thierry continues her promo marathon. The actress gave a new interview to the magazine Paris Match of February 10. The opportunity for her to return to a wound still raw: the premature death of Gaspard Ulliel, who was a close friend since their film debut.
The 40-year-old actress says, “Gaspard was one of (his) dearest friends“: “My grief is immense. He was an awesome guy. We had known each other for fifteen years and we had spent our first castings together. He was often taken and not me, it made us laugh a lot, and then one day, we found ourselves“, she explains to our colleagues. After having given the first time the reply in The Princess of Montpensier in 2010, Gaspard Ulliel and Mélanie Thierry had the joy of meeting again six years later on the set of The dancer, under the leadership of Stéphanie Di Giusto. The two friends had notably walked the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival and displayed their subtle complicity (see slideshow).
“Knowing that we won’t grow old with Gaspard brings me down“, then adds the actress, always with Paris Match. On January 27 in Paris, at the Saint-Eustache church, Mélanie Thierry of course took part in the funeral of her friend, not without difficulty. In this ordeal, she can fortunately count on the support of her long-time companion, the singer Raphaël, the father of her two boys aged 13 and 8. Many figures of French cinema were gathered on this sad day to pay a final tribute to Gaspard Ulliel: Catherine Deneuve, Louis Garrel, Léa Seydoux, Niels Schneider, Alice Taglioni, Nathalie Baye, Vincent Cassel… Usually discreet, Audrey Tautou has also reappeared, not far from Isabelle Huppert or Vincent Lindon.
