Mélanie Joly’s office occupied by demonstrators

Protesters occupied the offices of Mélanie Joly, David Lametti and Rachel Bendayan in Montreal on Monday afternoon, asking MPs to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

“We demand an immediate ceasefire, we demand an end to the blockade of Gaza and a halt to Canadian military aid to Israel,” he told The Press Sarah Shamy, member of the Palestinian Youth Movement.

In total, around fifteen people occupied Mélanie Joly’s office for a little over an hour, said Mme Shamy. Dozens of demonstrators also gathered outside the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, rue Chabanel Ouest.

“For 22 days now, Israel has been carrying out a campaign of genocide on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. It is a campaign financed by Canada and the United States. So we are here to demand an end to this complicity,” declared M.me Shamy.

The walls of the establishment were covered with signs, which read, among other things, “Free Palestine” and “Blood on your hands”.

The occupation occurred simultaneously in the offices of 16 MPs in 12 cities across Canada, including Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria and Winnipeg.
