(Ottawa) Canada’s foreign affairs minister begins a five-day trip to the Middle East and Mediterranean, where she will focus on peacekeeping and aid.
Global Affairs Canada announces that Mélanie Joly is expected to leave Monday for a mission that will take her to Cyprus, Lebanon, Turkey and Greece, where she will meet her counterparts and other government representatives.
In a press release, Mme Joly says the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East and the Caucasus continues to have repercussions in Canada.
She says she looks forward to engaging with officials and seeing how Canada can continue to provide support.
Minister Joly will participate in the celebration of the 60e anniversary of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus and discussions are also planned on ways to increase aid to the Gaza Strip.
She will also discuss regional security and stability in the Middle East and the South Caucasus.
